Turks and Caicos Islands
The islands economies come from tourism, fishing and offshore financial services. Most goods and domestic food is imported from either the United States or United Kingdom and include such things as tobacco, clothing, beverages and construction materials.
Unemployment is at about ten per cent. Currency on the island is the United States dollar except for certain government fines which are payable in British pounds.
The Turks and Caicos Islands are surrounded by a large coral reef and are ranked as one of the best areas in the world.
The reef is fairly close to the beach meaning beach dives are available. Visibility is great (up to 200 ft) with plenty of tropical flora, fish and other marine life to be seen. There are also plenty of shipwrecks to see as the reef claims quite a lot of boats. Mooring buoys are supplied at all dive sites so that anchors do not damage the areas. Diving during the summer can be done in swimsuits, as the sea is warm.
The Columbus Passage between Turks Island and the Caicos Islands is a migrating line for many fish such as manta rays, dolphins and turtles.
